For this assignment, we were tasked with taking 6 different pictures to create one. If you will notice, all of the photos are of Julie, who could have other wise not been in the same room. Using a tripod, I made sure that the photo was steady so that when Julie changed poses, the same background would be present. Then, using photoshop, I merged all of the layers together. One major thing I took away from this assignment was how to stack photos. Stacking photos is not all that difficult, and can happen easily. One other thing I enjoyed was creativity. Using my creativity, I asked Julie to pose in multiple ways. I feel like I am learning how to better operate photoshop.
The description of this weekly assignment was to capture a landscape. I wanted to experiment with landscape photography because in the past I have struggled with aperture and exposure adjustments. I felt that doing this assignment specifically would challenge me to become comfortable with adjusting my camera. Before Editing:Aperture: f 3.4 Shutter Speed: 1/1600 ISO: 200 After Editing:To edit this photo, I increased the contrast so that the tree would appear darker. I did this to give the subject a creepy artistic effect. I feel like increasing the contrast gave the photo more power. This assignment helped me become more comfortable with adjusting settings on the camera. For me, I feel like capturing the outdoors is really difficult. I feel like one major thing I can take away from this assignment is that photoshop is very powerful. If a picture is too over exposed, you can plug it into photoshop and adjust the photo to be how you desire. In the future, I will most definitely be using this tool.
This assignment required me to keep a steady hand to create a panoramic picture. A panoramic picture captures a larger span than a normal sized picture. Because of this, multiple photos must be strung together using photoshop. For this assignment, I had to be mindful of keeping a constant height and steady hand. One thing that was important was setting our cameras to manual mode so they would not auto focus. Below are some of the panoramic photos I created. From this assignment, I learned how to auto focus, put my camera into complete manual mode, and to adjust my exposure accordingly. I felt like maintaining a constant exposure was very helpful to me because it helped my seams look invisible and made the image look as if it was taken with one camera stroke. The photoshop part of this assignment was relatively easy, as it only required a few key strokes. There was not much room for user error, which is what I typically struggle with.
a nature assignment is one that captures a small part of the outdoors. On this day, it had been rainy and the terrain was filled with water droplets. I wanted to capture this by working with aperture and exposure. In photo 2, I struggled with finding a good exposure for an outdoor setting. Aperture: f5.6 Shutter Speed: 1/40 ISO: 1600 From this assignment, I learned the importance of having one isolated subject. I really like how I was able to capture individual water droplets because I think it shows that I put a lot of effort into this assignment. Additionally, I think I did a better job of using exposure. One thing I wish I could change is to have a camera with a lower aperture. because I was zoomed in on the camera, I was only able to use an f stop of 5.6.
In this assignment, i was tasked with turning some area of the school into another world using photoshop tools. Some things that this assignment helped me learn were selection tools, and the composition of multiple photographs. I liked this assignment because it made me become more familiar with photoshop. Location Before:Location After:As you might be able to tell, I turned the hallway into bikini bottom. Within the above photo, I learned to transform photos and lower opacity on filters. I believe that one of the tools I became most familiar with was the quick selection tool. I think that this assignment helped me understand photoshop as a whole. My favorite editing technique that I used was filling the windows from the door. I think that that really added to the overall creativity of the photo.
The purpose of this assignment was to show photo retouching skills on a photo. On this photo, I learned to remove/ blacken a background, and smooth spots that are unwanted. In my opinion, this assignment was difficult for me. I feel that this assignment has made me an overall better photo shopper because I now know the importance of fully highlighting a subject. Before:After:From this assignment, I learned a lot of patience. I think that this took me a lot of time because I like to do things quickly, and photoshop requires a lot of time and precise effort. One thing that I became really familiar with is the quick shortcuts. I think these will be helpful to me in the future with photoshop.
This is the second photo assignment. For this assignment, I chose to take a portrait photo. I wanted to do this to capture the personality of my subjects. I photographed my younger brother and my friend for this assignment. I thought that doing portrait photography would be easier than it actually was. It is quite difficult to make subjects appear natural. Even though the sky was very cloudy, I like how the photo captures that there was a nice day outside. aperture: f 4.0 shutter speed: 1/2000 ISO: 1250 For this assignment, I learned that it is very difficult to make a portrait photo appear natural. You need to constantly change your aperture and shutter speed to conform with how the weather changes. This particular day was nice outside, but it was a bit chilly. This caused my subjects to become less compliant, making the photo taking process quicker than I would have liked. Overall, I learned that you must be adaptable as a photographer.
For photo two I am hoping to capture a portrait photo. I want to work on using aperture to highlight a subject. For the subject, I will most likely use a photo of my brother. Below are the links to the types of photos I am going to attempt to capture. https://www.google.com/search?q=portrait+photography&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi73Oq5q-nhAhXnRd8KHb2cDFgQ_AUIDigB&biw=1920&bih=1001#imgrc=iUlXXt96O2o7BM: https://www.google.com/search?q=portrait+photography&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi73Oq5q-nhAhXnRd8KHb2cDFgQ_AUIDigB&biw=1920&bih=1001#imgrc=Fv49FHeiO0xmBM: https://www.google.com/search?q=portrait+photography&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi73Oq5q-nhAhXnRd8KHb2cDFgQ_AUIDigB&biw=1920&bih=1001#imgrc=YC7dVbn7FGUR5M: I chose these photos for inspiration because I like the way they play with light to highlight different angles of the face and show creativity. I want to expand my photography skills to be more creative. I think that attempting portrait photography will push me to improve my technical abilities.
For this assignment, we were required to choose one photo of ourselves to change the color and saturation. Once the photo was copied 4 times over, it was arranged in quadrants to appear like Andy Warhol's original pop art piece. Next, we changed the colors to contrast one another. This was my original photo for pop art #1 This was my original photo for pop art #2. From this assignment, I learned that following directions is very important. I think that I learned how to manage photoshop and make sure the photos were centered. I learned that filters look nice if they each have the same exposure and saturation, but not necessarily the same hue.
